Journal entry #1

15% time project

My two primary goals for the 15 percent time project. First I will build a go-cart chassis that will be made out of scrap metal. Second, the engine for the go-cart will be a lawn mower engine so I will need to fit the engine on the frame.

Making something out of scrap metal is something I have done several time before. I actually fixed my snowmobile, last break so the welding skills are fresh in me. The engine part of the project should not be a problem for me, because I worked at a go-cart shop this summer and also since I'm 14 years I have done all mechanics on my dirt bikes and racing karts.

Here is a link that shows how to make a go-kart in one day. I want to make a bigger chassis then the one in this example but the engine will most likely look exactly the same.

Here is the chassis we are going to build. The size is perfect and it is not to complicated to build.

The go-cart project will go fast once we will have the materials. My partner and I will gather materials over spring break. Once we have everything I estimate the time to build it at at most three days.

Next steps
1. Gather materials
2. Make sure I know how to set the engine
