For my 15% PROJECT I am going to either build a computer from scratch or build a solar panel that charges my sailboats battery.
If I choose to build a computer from scratch for my 15% time project, I would either use a kit (like this one) or, (more likely) pick out my own parts. I would use this as my main guide. This is a great site because rather than just telling you what to get and do, it recommends reliable brands and explains what to look for based on YOUR needs.
My materials would include:
A Processor
A Motherboard
A Case (or tower/external shell)
Just a generic looking one.
Some RAM (Random Access Memory) As in sticks of.
[POSSIBLY a Graphics Card] NOT ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, but VERY helpful if you ever wanted to run a more video-based program such as Sony Vegas or any computer game.
The Hard Drive(s) Very likely to only have one because of the cost.
[PROBABLY an Optical Drive] Also not absolutely necessary but a low-quality one will go for as little as 20$, so I'll probably include one.
And a Power Supply

OOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could build a solar panel that could charge my sailboats battery. My plan for this would be to build a solar panel that I could possibly leave somewhere on my boat when not sailing that can charge its battery.
I could either build a flat ridged one that would lay on the bow of my boat like this.
Using a process like the one mentioned here.
Or I could TRY and build a more flexible one that I could attach to a sail like this one.
Using this technique.
I MIGHT use materials like the ones listed here but I need to learn more before I can guarantee this.
